Question by Helpless…: Biology 20 Questions “Matter and Energy in Cells”?
I have a few questions that require answering due to the fact that my text book is faulty and google in fact, is not all-knowing (haha). The best answer will go to the first person to answer as many as possible. I thank you in advance. Answers do not need to be paragraphs long, to the point works just fine. Please state sources so I can further extend my knowledge.

1. Role chlorophyll plays as a vital link in maintaining the biosphere

2. “You have been asked to design a greenhouse to grow plants for your community. One of the specified requirements is that the glass transmits only green colored light. Explain the effects of this decision on the ability of the plants to photosynthesize.”

3. Why do autotrophs and heterotrophs have the necessity to carry out the process if cellular respiration while only autotrophs are capable of photosynthesis?

4. Which molecule holds more energy, ADP or ATP?

5. In what manner are solar cells and the action of chlorophyll similar?

6. ATP produced in light reaction is vital to photosynthesis, how will this be used in photosynthesis?

7. Is the reaction — Glucose -> Pyruvic acid -> lactic acid — aerobic or anaerobic? How does athletic training delay this reaction?

8. What is oxygen’s key role in aerobic cellular respiration? Explain it’s importance.

9. Compare aerobic and anaerobic respiration in terms of reactants, products and ATP production.

Once again, thank you very much in advance, you answers would greatly aid me in studying for my final.

1. The sun is the primary energy source on this planet. Chlorophyll has the ability to effectively harness this radiant energy and convert it into
high energy bonds of organic molecules, i.e. food, at the producer level,
the beginning of the food chain.
2. Dumb design. Green plants cannot use green light effectively to carry on photosynthesis. Best to transmit blue and red wavelengths.
3. Regardless of whether or not an organism is capable of producing their own food, both must have a mechanism to utilize the food that is obtained. Respiration is a necessary energy producing process for organisms whether or not free oxygen is needed.
4.ATP. It contains a high energy bond not found in ADP.
5.They are both capable of converting the sun’s radiant energy into a more usable form. Solar cells:Solar Radiation —-> electrical energy ;
chlorophyll: Radiation —–> high energy bonds in organic compounds.
6.The “dark reactions” (Calvin cycle) needs this energy to produce the building blocks of carbohydrates, like PGAL.
7.Anaerobic. An athlete who is “in great condition” can get a better supply of oxygen delivered to their body cells. An endurance athlete, like a marathon runner can keep a pace to operate on an aerobic level.
8.In the final stages of the Kreb’s cycle, oxygen is the final hydrogen acceptor, producing water as a by product of aerobic respiration.

Do liquid solar blankets REALLY work?

Question by CJ: Do liquid solar blankets REALLY work?
We have an 18×33 above ground pool & because of the size, getting a solar cover off and on (even with a reel) is kind of a pain… while shopping for a new cover (dog got ahold of ours over the winter, grrrrr) I came accross “liquid solar blankets”. Curious as to if anyone has used them & if they really work as advertised…

Thanks! :)
