Is it true that Solar heating need to be mantained regularly?

If so,is it costly? By the way, this is in Australia.

As Bob says, the answer depends on just how simple or complex the system is. But a basic system should need very little maintenance other than cleaning the solar collector from time to time. Again this depends on location, areas with high dust levels or nearby trees will need the collector to be cleaned more frequently.
It depends on the system. The more devices, moving parts and such that you have, the more maintenance you need to do.
In ancient Egypt they figured out numerous methods of using passive solar that needed almost no attention. Today we have pumps and panels and storage tanks that need to be taken care of. Costs depend a lot on whether you can do it yourself or if you’ll have to have somebody do it for you.
